DREAMS

Funded by PEPFAR through USAID/Namibia, the DREAMS project aims to support AGYW aged 10 to 24 years, through empowering them to reach their full potential and reducing new HIV infections among their cohort. Multifaceted community and facility-based platforms are used to deliver the DREAMS core package of interventions, which features information on HIV and gender-based violence prevention, mentorships, youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services, the provision of menstrual hygiene management materials, education support, financial literacy, skills building through entrepreneurship and apprenticeship, support for job placement, PrEP, and HIV testing services. APHNalso provides support to caregivers and sexual partners of AGYW.

As a result of DREAMS interventions, over 13,000 AGYW have been enrolled on PrEP and more than 32,000 are actively enrolled in the DREAMS program and receiving services. Eligible AGYW are identified and enrolled in the program through a number of entry points. These include health facilities, particularly prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV platforms and antenatal care clinics, as well as settings offering HIV testing, sexually transmitted infection, and family planning services. However, the majority of AGYM are identified through primary, secondary, and tertiary schools. At the household-level, community care workers (CCWs) conducting regular home visits locate out-of-school AGYW and enrol them for services, as appropriate. At the community-level, APHN engages community structures, such as youth groups established by the Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service, traditional leaders, informal community meeting places, and community-based outreach points to identify at-risk AGYW.
