Achieving national and international health goals requires substantial and strategic investments in health systems and services. The 2025-2030 Strategic Plan of the African Public Health Network (APHN) Strategic Plan is developed to respond to Africa’s evolving public health landscape in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and other health challenges. The strategy underscores APHNs commitment to strengthen health systems, addressing health inequities, and ensuring access to essential services for all Africans. The plan is grounded in APHNs Vision, Mission and Core values, which collectively drive the organizations efforts to build resilient, equitable and sustainable health systems across the continent.
APHN aims to lead transformative health initiatives through trust-based partnerships by leveraging the extensive experience of its network members and partners. The strategic plan outlines actionable priorities to strengthen public health institutions’ capacity to proactively detect and rapidly mobilize in response to public health threats and emerging issues, while driving the implementation of evidence-informed solutions tailored to local contexts. By doing so, APHN seeks to improve population health outcomes and address systemic barriers to care, with a strong emphasis on health equity, disease prevention, and systems strengthening.
This strategy identifies five strategic priorities that serve as pillars for APHNs work, reinforcing health systems resilience, building workforce capacity, prevention and control of high burden diseases, ensuring robust emergency preparedness and response capabilities for public health emergencies and other threats, and strengthening research and innovation to improve public health decision making and practice. These priorities align with regional and global health goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and position APHN as a leader in advancing public health solutions that are locally relevant and globally impactful.
