APHN’s strategy plan has emanated from the vision and mission of an indigenous African born organization that aims to enable improved health outcomes for communities in Africa. Capitalizing on the rich track records of APHNs network members and other partners to date, we will make vital and transformative advancements to better enable APHN to improve the health of the people in Africa. Through the implementation of APHN’s strategy, we will enhance the ability of public health to proactively detect and rapidly mobilize in response to public health threats and emerging issues, while driving the implementation of evidence-informed solutions and monitoring for health care access, equity and quality improvement. Our strategic priorities will drive positive change for public health in Africa as we work together collectively with our public health and health system partners to promote population health; prevent disease and other health threats; address health access and equity.

There are five strategic priorities identified to APHN’s response, each with its set of strategic objectives:

Reinforce health system strengthening activities to realize resilient health system.

Build the capacity of African public health workforce to improve population health outcomes.

Support the prevention and control of high-burden diseases.

Ensure robust emergency preparedness and response capabilities for public health emergencies and other threats.

Strengthen public health research and innovation to improve public health decision-making and practice.
